Marry F*** Kill – 2023

Marry F*** Kill

Marry F*** Kill is a TV movie from 2023. Most movies made for TV have, shall we say, a different quality to them. The acting is usually worse, the special effects may not be up to par etc. But I think that Marry F*** Kill is actually pretty good in both those departments. Of course, you can tell that the budget wasn’t a gazillion dollars. But an effective thriller doesn’t need to have a lot of money invested in it to be successful. The most prominent quality such a movie needs to have is suspense.

Occultism at large

And I think the Marry F*** Kill has that. Not all the way through maybe, but there are enough of those scenes to carry the movie. I also think that the acting isn’t that bad and the story works. At least for me, that has a sweet tooth for haunted houses and demonic possessions. I also like films that explore the occult in one way or another. It’s a subject I find fascinating. I’m not an expert in any way, on occultism I mean. Occult movies though, I think I know at least a little bit more about them.

A Friends Suicide

The main plot is about this group of friends gathering again after a mutual friend has committed suicide. There’s a lot of secrecy and possible plotting and scheming. They have been through a lot together and everything hasn’t been a good experience either. On the outside, they try to keep up the facade. But sometimes the past shines through quite clearly. We get some of the backstory in bits and pieces. And we get familiarized with the game they used to play when they were in high school. A game called Marry F*** Kill. It’s about just what it sounds like. You have to name one person to Marry, One to F***, and one to kill. A macabre game it seems. But still, all in good fun. In good fun if you’re not the poor sod who everybody wants to kill maybe.

A group of Friends

In all this, there is the old house where their friend committed suicide and where the group of people are to spend the next few nights. They are to stay for a few days until the funeral has been completed and the will be read by the lawyer. but there’s not only the old creepy house. No one seems to want them in their town either. It’s not really spoken to their faces but you get the feeling. They get warned not to stay too long, for their own good. Not that either of them is especially interested in staying anyway. They just want to pay their respect and leave as soon as possible.

Sinister

But that may not be possible at all. There are occult forces at large. Something sinister happened to their friend and now it seems to close in on them as well. One by one they fall victim to…something. I think it’s a well-made film and I hadn’t it completely figured out and that’s a good thing. There are a few twists and turns in there and not just the standard pattern. Most of it is pretty standard if you have seen a few movies like it of course, but there are also a few surprises in there.

I liked it. It wasn’t a masterpiece for me but well worth wasting 90 minutes on. I think you should see it too!
