Out for Blood is the debut album by The Runaways lead guitarist Lita Ford. I got it on Vinyl back in the day but I never listened much to it. I guess it was because I was kinda obsessed with Lita Ford second album Sancin’ on the Edge at the time.
Out for Blood is, however, a fine album! yes, it sounds like the early 80’s and it might not be the best production. It might not even contain the best songs of all time. Not even Lita’s best songs. But there’s an attitude to it. It has nothing to do with The Runaways sound at all. But I think it’s common knowledge that Lita early on was pulling her musical preferences in a different direction than Joan Jett. The latter was undisputedly the main figure in The Runaways.
But on Out for Blood Lita Ford has left the easy accessible Glam Rock roots of her former band. This is more straight up Hardrock. I know that some might label it as Hair Metal or even Glam Metal and there’s might be true up to a point. But what I hear is the first stumbling steps to creating something of her own. An I like the simplicity that so rare in the music business today.
