Radiance Supreme is the second studio album by the Finnish Power Metal band Seagrave. As I only had the cover art to base my first thought upon, as is most often the case, I thought that Seagrave was some sort of Pirate Metal. I mean, there’s a ship on the cover and there’s some kind of ship on their previous album The End of Silence as well. Now, I can’t say that I have analysed the lyrics in depth but it doesn’t sound anything like the most Pirate Metal band I know – Alestorm. Probably a good thing as making your own musical identity should be the goal for any band.
Musically it lands somewhere in the landscape of a crossover between Hardrock and Metal for me. And the Metal part is somewhere between Heavy Metal and Power Metal. It’s a little different from song to song.
At first I had issues with the vocals, which is fairly common when it comes to me. I don’t like most voices or singing techniques, especially when it comes to more extreme types of vocals as in Black- or Death Metal. That isn’t the case here though and already after the first couple of songs I couldn’t understand what my issue was in the beginning? It sounds just fine and the vocals fit the music perfectly.
Radiance Supreme is most definitely an album that I will come back to, and I think I need to explore the previous discography as well!
