Nature’s Light is an album by The Folk group Blackmore’s Night. Of course, for all old time rockers Ritchie Blackmore will forever be associated with Deep Purple and maybe Rainbow. I don’t think he can ever escape that even though the last time he was on a Deep Purple album was in the mid 90’s. The same thing with Rainbow really. Their last album was made in the mid 90s as well, but the band was essentially split in the early 80s.
But, that said, Ritchie Blackmore is now a part of the neo medieval folk group Blackmore’s Night together with his wife Candice Night. Nature’s Light is, as this is written, the latest release from the band. I kind of double that there will be any more since Candice Night now have released a few solo albums and Ritchie Blackmore is 80(!) years old.
Having listened to a few of their previous albums I can’t really find anything new to focus on. The sound is more or less a constant. it’s basically acoustic Folk. Yes, there are eclectic instruments as well but the instruments are seldom in the foreground anyway. It’s rather the entire concept of Candice Night’s voice and the music that accompanies her. I can’t hear anything spectacular from Ritchie at all.
That doesn’t mean that he can’t handle the guitar duties of course. I think maybe the best guitarists are those that are not really noticed. They just enrich the music and have no need for spectacular solos and things like that. But I like Nature’s Light, as well as all the other albums by Blackmore’s Night that I’ve heard so far. It’s very soothing and beautiful.
