Kiss – Creatures of the Night – 1982
As well as the following album Lick It Up, Creatures of the Night is a considerably “heavier” album than most of the productions from the seventies! Unfortunately, it’s not a positive sign, and the melodies, which could often be catchy and frequently sing-along-friendly, are usually quite dull. There are exceptions to that rule, “Killer,” and “I Love It Loud,” are great songs in my ears, but the album rating cannot be based solely on just a couple of great songs. Several songs that could be counted on one hand, even if you amputated several fingers! Overall, it becomes boring and one of the weakest albums with Kiss that I’ve written about so far.
And the fact is, this doesn’t give me much more than what I’ve already written; it’s simply a really weak album. You, of course, recognize who is playing. Or do you? Ace Frehley is on the cover but didn’t play a single note on the album, Creatures of the Night is instead filled with guest- or studio musicians. There are Vinnie Vincetwho later would join the band, Robben Ford, and a few others. But Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley’s voices are recognizable, and if you’re a completist, you should of course have Creatures of the Night too!
