Renewal was a perfectly named album by Kreator. Unfortunately it follows kind of the same trend that Slayer did with Divine Intervention and Diabolus in Musica. They tried to reinvent themselves and try something new. Something I really commend because being stuck in the same think and the same approach för too long must be really frustrating. On the other hand, it might not be the best of ideas to ditch what actually works for a totally different direction
Well, it might not be a totally new direction from Kreator with Renewall, but you can easily hear the difference between it and the albums prior to it. Renewal is more industrial and not nearly as much anergy as before. I think they tried to do something more laidback but I’d say it wasn’t successful.
Mille Petrozza wrote all the lyrics and plays guitars and doing the vocals as usual. Frank Godszik adds another guitar, Rob Fioretto plays the bass for the last time as a member of Kreator and Jürgen Reil lays down the drums. So far into their discography Renewal is my least favorite album with Kreator.
