Diamond Head – What’s in your Head? – 2007
What’s in Your Head is the sixth studio album from British band Diamond Head. A legendary band really and I’m really embarrassed that I don’t know more about them. And, that I lack so much of their music in my frame of reference. If you’re a Metallica fan I guess it’s dictated by law that you should know a few though. First and foremost Am I Evil?. That cem much earlier though and I think there’s only one original member in the band these days – and at the time of this albums release.
Not sure what the “classic” lineup of Diamond is either. Or if there’s really a lineup that are considered classic. Some bands have several classic lineup by their own right and some bands don’t have one at all. I think band’s like Deep Purple fall under the first category and bands like Annihilator in the latter.
But enough of that. Music wise What’s in Your Head sounds like it could have been written in the seventies, which I guess is the period mostly associated with Diamond Head. So itäs strange to learn that it was indeed released in 2007. Of course, the sound quality and production values is better than the average mainstream hardrock album so that’s a plus.
It’s both hard and easy to categorize the music on What’s in Your Head to a genre. It’s most definitely hardrock, not metal at all. I like it and It reminds me a bit of another british band – Thunder. I think especially the vocals, even though Thunder vocalist Danny Bowes is exceptional. What does that say about Diamond Head singer Nick Tart? The short answer is of course that he does a very very good job with the vocal duties! But apart from being hardrock and if I would need to nuance it further, i’d be in trouble.
