Violent Revolution is the first studio album of the 2000s from Kreator, their tenth in total. Without having all of Kreators discography in fresh memory I think it seems like they make every other record really great and something less than perfect in between. Violent Revolution is one of the really good ones! It has just the elements I’m looking for when it comes to Kreator. It’s aggressive, not too technically as far as the song structure and/or riffs are concerned. At least that’s what I hear, but my guitar skills might not let me understand how difficult the riffs really are to play anyway. Maybe they’re super technical but just don’t sound that way?
The vocals are as they should. Yes, it’s hard to hear the lyrics, but that’s what listening to Kreator or other bands with that kind of shouty, raspy or growling vocals give you. Mille Petrozza, who wrote all the songs, plays the rhythm guitar and handles the vocals. Jürgen Reil is behind the drums. Sami Yli-Sirniö is the lead guitarist and the bass is performed by Christian Giesler. I think this may be the longest lasting line-up for the band.
Not that they have had a gazillion different members like some other bands. You know, bands like Megadeth where you cannot ever start to count different settings and lineups. The one constant is Mille Petrozza though. He’s essential for the band, and on Violent Revolution he really shows us why that is!
There’s just about the right level of production effort put into Violent Revolusion, not over produced but something that fits the music. And not too lo-fi as some of the earlier albums had been either.
