Hate Über Alles is the fifteenth studio album from Kreator. It is again the creation of Mille Petrozza who has written all the songs on it. It sort of brutal, at least if you ignore the opening intro track Sergio Curbucci is Dead. I don’t really get it. Yes, Sergio Cubucci is dead, an Italian film director, died in 1990. Why make a statement of that in 2022? Maybe there’s a point, I don’t know.
But after that, Hate Über Alles is probably the most brutal, almost Death Metalish album of Kreators entire discography. I like it a lot. There’s no room for anything subtle, it just goes all in a crush everything. At least to begin with. And, it took me a few sessions with Hate Über Alles to really sort out my thoughts about it. The more I listened to it, the more I noticed the nuances in it.
There are actually quite a few passages where the tempo slows down and more melodic lines are intertwined in the concept. This is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, the music becomes more dynamic, on the other hand, it takes away something from the uncompromising brutality. I thought long and hard about that. Do the pros or cons weigh more?
I ultimately decided that, in an optimal world, I would like the more brutal and aggressive sound to come across more. Of course, that’s a matter of taste and might also be a matter of what you feel like the particular day you listen to it. Maybe you’ve had a bad day and need the aggression to get everything bad out of your system? Maybe one day it’s quite the opposite?
New for Hate Über Alles is that Frédéric Leclercq now handles the bass duties. The rest of the band is the same, with Mille on vocals and guitar, Jürgen Reil on drums and Sami Yli-Sirniö on lead guitar.
