Death by Rock and Roll is the fourth alöbum from The Pretty Reckless. The first time I listened to it and tried to categorize it I was quick to label it Hardrock, but after a few spins I’m not so sure if it’s that simple. The first of the album is undeniably harder than the latter half but along the way there’s also country and folk influences. Even Blues and Blues Rock I would say. Of course, most Roch and Hardrock is somewhat based in the blues pentatonic scale anyway.
I find Death by Rock and Roll pretty diverse which I like. It’s much more interesting to listen to an album where the mold isn’t as obvious as it can be with some bands. Yet, I cannot point in a certain direction, I cannot name specific songs that are stronger or better than others. But on the other hand I’m not saying it’s fantastic either. I could say that it, musically, is more thought through than many other albums.
Death by Rock and Roll sure makes me interested in /exploring their earlier (and later) records though. This could very well be a new favorite act in my book!
