The Revenge of Alice Cooper is a pretty special album. It’s the first album with the original lineup since 1973. Obviously, Glen Buxton, who passed away in 1997, is not part of the band anymore. But they found a clever way to include him anyway. There was an old demo of a song that he played on. They isolated his guitar parts and then wrote a song with that as a base. I think it’s genius! So, even if Glen did pass away in 1997, he still contributed and still has a writing credit on The Revenge of Alice Cooper.
On the rest of the tracks, there are various composers. Some are the whole band, others are written solely by Michael Bruce. I really liked his songs on the old classic album, so that’s always a plus for me. Neal Smith and Dennis Dunaway are also heavily involved in the songwriting, as well as producer Bob Ezrin.
The Revenge of Alice Cooper really sounds like something the original band could have come up with in 1975. It’s not something Alice Cooper has done just to involve the original members and keep a modern sound. The Revenge of Alice Cooper is the real deal, and for me, it’s the best coming from Alice Cooper in quite a while. It’s not hardrock, it’s not metal. It’s pure rock, and you can tell that they had a damn good time recording it.
There are 14 songs, and although not all of them are their best song ever, it’s hard to top the original era anyway; they hold up very good. I like this album and I’m gonna continue to spin it for a long time. I doubt I’ll get tired of these songs. But, what I started to say was that there are many songs and I think the first half of them or so i generally better. But on the other hand, you barely notice the time go by. All of a sudden, the Revenge of Alice Cooper has gone full circle. And that should count for something!
