Fantom Kiler is a Polish extremely low-budget film from the late 90s. There isn’t much of a plot. It’s more of an excuse to show off female anatomy and violence. Oh, and there’s silicone for sure! Not all the time, of course; there are more natural bodies as well. It’s more misogynistic than most slasher/giallo hybrids, even if it’s in the nature of many of these movies to exploit the female body.
Fantom Kiler makes it plump and without finesse, and that’s the strength of it. It doesn’t try to pretend to be something it’s not. Hence, there’s no suggested nudity; it’s full frontal, sometimes disguised as fantasy. But there are also scenes where it’s shown in explicit detail and close-ups.
The scenes are loosely kept together by a murderous plot and police trying to solve the murders. The murders are rather bloodless, though, and highly stylistic. It’s obvious that it’s not about showing off murders but rather about exploiting the female anatomy.
There’s no real screaming or scream queens in Fantom Kiler. The women don’t seem to be scared, and even when they are, they’re not screaming their lungs out. I guess that’s both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, I’m quite tired of the screaming cliché. On the other hand, it actually adds a bit to the terror and suspense. Which means that Fantom Kiler has almost none of that. The main thing is the show of naked women. The killing is certainly secondary. Although there appears to be a point of stabbing in the genitalia, which seems highly sexualized.
There’s really no end to the Fantom Kiler. Well, maybe there is! I have a thesis of how it might be connected, but it’s not really confirmed nor denied. And since there are two movies in the series, I don’t really understand how I could be right? Mysterious, eh? I won’t include any spoilers for you. Seek out eh movies for yourself and take a guess.
