Fear Pharm 2 is the sequel to Fear Pharm… (DUH!). In the first movie, we got a kind of wrong turn meets classic slasher. In the end, they tried to do something ambitious. They tried to create a motif and to make sense of the killings. It worked pretty well, I think. It made it a bit more gruesome.
In the second film, we already know about the underlying causes resulting in the deaths and captures of the people in the maze. There’s also no focus on the slasher elements anymore. They have gone all in with the story beneath all the killing. I think it more or less follows where the first left off, and we see that the hillbillies (or whatever you want to call them) have a few prisoners kept for harvesting their skin. It’s a really horrifying situation.
Yet, there’s no engagement between the film and the viewers, at least not with me. I don’t feel for the victims, I don’t think the killers are funny, and the plot is illogical. Well, the main premise, that the prisoners tries to escape might be realistic, but not in the way they do it, and not the way that they are supposed to be stopped by the hillbillies.
It’s just boring. I tried to keep interest all the way, but I lost it a few times when I couldn’t follow what happened. I just wasn’t interested. The acting is not bad, but the characters are really wooden. The cover art is cool, though.
