The Demonologist – 2019

The Demonologist

The Demonolist is a movie that I really should like in theory. I enjoy movies where occultism and the war between good and evil can flourish. What I enjoy even more is when angels and demons fight the war partly as divine beings on Earth. I also enjoy the occasional satanic rites that aim to bring evil to this world and to manifest itself in a human vessel. The Demonologist has all that. It’s not particularly badly acted and the story is more or less plausible. Given that you have the capacity to broaden tour horizon and have imagination enough to see beyond what can be proven by science.

What also makes stories like there better is when the traditional good and evil are shifted so that the usual roots of all evil – Lucifer, or Satan, the Devil or what ever you chose to call this evil for, becomes the good part in the ekvation. That’s kind of the truth here. There isn’t a war in Heaven at is in the Propechy movies. Here we have a war in Hell where some of the lords, princes and/or demons has started a rebellion against Lucifer. To stop them Lucifer has come to earth in person to conceive a son to fight the other demons.

All In

I think that the story goes all in with the Demonologist. I like that it involves so many names and relations between the demons. I’m certainly not an expert when it comes to this but I have heard most of the names before. I don’t have a clue about their internal relationship though. And I’m not even sure if there is such a theory on how they are related to one another. I would certainly want to study such theory, that’s for sure.

The acting itself is pretty good. At leat it’s not bad. It might be a little wooden at times and the scenery is a tell tail that the budget and location hunting caught have been better. But it’s not to bad. I think it suits the story well. There are also special effects (CGI) that are not that bad at times. It’s not great either but for the most part it works. The more traditional effects might not be top-notch but I like them and if they were shot with a different light maybe they could have been really scary too.

At the end of the day, I enjoyed The Demonologist, I don’t think it’s a film for anyone though. You need to be interested in the occult to appreciate it I think. And it sure doesn’t hurt to be into low-budget movies!
