The Loch Ness Horror – 2023
I’ll be frank right from the top. I didn’t understand The Loch Ness Horror at all. First of all, I don’t understand why they called in anything with Loch Ness in it. As far as I understand nothing happens in a sea whatsoever. I might have misunderstood the premises but my interpretation is that it all happens in the ocean, exactly where it is uncertain though. But they somehow find the Loch Ness Monster in there. They even say it at one point in the movie. But of course, if a sea monster is synonymous with the Loch Ness monster you’re all fine. For me, the Loch Ness Horror is about a sea monster not necessarily located in the Loch Ness in Scottland.
The CGI is not half bad at times. they often look pretty good. In fact, they’re so good it’s even hard to tell which shots are made with a computer or not sometimes. I understand that the monster’s appearance is all computer generated of course but there are also other aspects where it might have been used. There ought to be some greenscreen shots as well but as a whole, I don’t have a problem with the effects.
The Acting
The acting is another matter though. There’s not a single character I care about. It’s hard to say which ones are bad guys and which are the innocents. I think the characters are totally soleless and more often than not I don’t care what happens to them. Some get eaten by an enormous sea creature and some might even survive until the end. I said might survive, you’ll have to figure that out for yourself. Let’s just say that the ending scenes leave some up to interpretation. I don’t really mind that but if we didn’t care about who lives or dies to begin with, why bother?
Another thing I reacted to was the editing. I know this sounds like I woke up this morning with refluxes in my throat, but I really didn’t like how the scenes were connected to each other. Along with stiff dialogues, this is something that sure as hell ruins a film. Even if it has a killer gigantic monster in it.
So, what should I say? I didn’t enjoy it very much. The effects are somewhat of a saving grace and you can never go wrong with a sea creature. But should you watch it? Should you invest 79 minutes in it? I don’t know, that’s up to you.
