9 is an animated film with a rather adult theme, not that it feels particularly unsuitable for children, but it is probably humor and tragedy that require an adult’s experience to fully function. The story is not unique in any way, you could almost apply any post-apocalyptic film in this basis, the difference is the animation and that it is about some dolls who have survived the great war between man and machine. Overall, I think it is a fairly shallow plot but the whole thing is saved by the film’s charm. There are a lot of references to a totalitarian society and I will personally think of Nazi Germany when I see it. There are, let’s say, certain symbols that are reminiscent of other symbols if you know what I mean. The voices consist of celebrities, Elijah Wood, Christopher Plummer, Crispin Glover, Jennifer Connelly and Martin Landau are at least worth mentioning. In the end, however, I think the film is a bit underwhelming, it’s a bit too light and a bit too much surface area in relation to the content, which of course has to reduce the rating.
