The Correction Unit takes place sometime in the future, not too far from now. It’s a tough world, and crime rates are high. The everyday life seems to be controlled by the government or by the large corporations. In this reality, we get to follow a group of youngsters. They are in trouble and could very well be heading for a more conventional correction facility, but up in a place where experiments are made on them. They are told that they will get a shorter sentence if they participate.
The Experiments are done with AI, which in 2025 doesn’t seem to far fetched. We already have a lot of debate about the use and the dangers in the real world today. I guess The Correction Unit is kind of a comment on that. It’s painfully slow-paced at times, but sometimes it’s used to an advantage and becomes kind of dense.
When I was reading about the plot, I learned that torture would be taking place with the AI. Well, that’s a matter of opinion, I guess. I’m not saying that happens to the kids are pleasant, but I do think they could have made it a little more tense. Furthermore, I was thinking that they would be placed in an alternate reality where they had to face their wrongs, but that was just my assumption, and it didn’t happen.
Instead, there’s some vagues plot about wealthy people stealing the information downloaded from the kids into perfect replicas. I don’t really get it. The British tone does help to make it a little more gritty, but it never really got under my skin like I was hoping it would. There were great premises, but it got wasted.
