East of Eden – Mercator Projected – 1969

Mercator Projected

Mercator Projected is the debut album of the English progressive rock band East of Eden. The band itself is a new acquaintance for me. According to all “rules”, I shouldn’t like this. It sound heavily dated to the 60s and I can’t really figure it out. It’s not the run-of-the-mill easy listening. Quite the contrary actually. It’s quite difficult get into it.

There are a few “difficult” scales which really doesn’t suit my ears, and yet I find it interesting. There are som great hooks in some if the tracks and even though I can’t imagine I would ever have bought this album back in the day, or even now, I’m still glad I took the time to pass it into my frame of reference.

As far as I under stand Easy of Eden has gained a cult status as a band and even though I’m not sure if Mercator Projected is celebrated as one of their top albums it’s still pretty special. I don’t hink I could stand too much of this kind of “flower-power” music at a time, for what it is, it’s good and well performed.
