Shattered is an album by the country band Whiskey River Revival. I guess they took their name from the Johnny Bush song Whiskey River from 1972. I’m not familiar with neither that song nor this band. Regarding the song I can use wikipedia to figure out that it was a hit for both Johnny Bush and Willie Nelson. I think the latter had even more success with it.
Anyway, Shattered starts out pretty traditional. What I, with my prejudices in mind, thinks that traditional Country sounds like. But I think it get a bit more modern as the songs go by. There are some songs where there’s obvious auto tune used. I think it’s so obvious that it must be used for some kind of effect. You know, as Cher did with Believe in the late 90s. The effect is not as extreme here though.
Going forward I think the songs starts to flirts more with rock and less with traditional country. I guess that makes this Country Rock right? Anyway, I like this concept. I might first and foremost be a metal head but over the years I’ve opened up to more and more musical styles and genres. I think this is cool and I think I could but this on repeat a few time without getting sick of it.
That didn’t sound so great did it? But that’s actually a pretty good thing in my book. So much music these days doesn’t really say anything. It’s ok when you listen to it and when it’s over you got nothing out of it. Shattered gives me a sense of wanting more. Or at lest wanting it again.
