Airbourne is one of those bands that seem to have been around forever. Still, like Anvil, they never got the real recognition they deserve. There is something about the Australian sound that screams Rock and Roll – ff course, the first band I think about is AC/DC and I’m also aware of Rose Tattoo, another great band. But Airbourne has really flown under the radar for me.
Now, I’m not a huge AC/DC fan, especially not of the Brian Johnson era, and Airbourne does have quite a few similarities. I would even say that if you like AC/DC you will absolutely like Airbourne as well, the live feeling and the Rock and Roll aspect is that enormous. You can tell that they are not imitators or really paying homage to the more famous “brother”. They are their own thing. But the energy, oh the energy when they start playing!
This new album is twelve songs long and I can’t say that any of them really stand out in a positive or negative way. It’s a very even album in that aspect. It’s full throttle from start to finish. First and foremost, I like the energy the album emits, and the actual song quality as far as structure (verse, chorus, bridge etc) comes into play later. In some cases, like in this one, you don’t really care about that. It becomes less important and it’s just the initial feeling that matters.
