Hotel Inferno – 2013
Hotel Inferno is a different film. All the movie is in first-camera mode. What the main character sees is also what we see. I think it’s an interesting concept but it does not not hold up all of the movie. It becomes a bit dull after a while and the shots become less realistic after a while. There are at least two sequels though, so It will be interesting to see what they have down with those. Maybe they’ve learned from their mistakes and made them better.
But Hotel Inferno is not a bad movie really. Not it you take it for what it is. I guess the budget was more or less all spend on the splatter effects which are rather good. They’re not overly amusing or funny and they can be in a splatter film with a more comedic ambition. Of course, it’s entertaining anyway, that’s the whole point of watching a movie like this. No one sees a splatter film from the deep drama anyway. But there is a storyline. It might be thin, but it’s there.
Hitman
The main character is a hitman sent to a Hotel to kill a couple. Specific instructions for how it should be done are given. He’s even given the instruments to do it, the tools, the weapons. He’s told to crush their skulls and remove the brains. He should also remove their guts and in that order. No firearms whatsoever are permitted. Let’s say that he cannot fulfill the wishes of the letter and soon finds himself in a place where violence is all around him. He finds secret doors and passages. He has to fight for his life to come out as he’s now both the hunter and the hunted.
There’s a game feeling to the entire movie. It could have just been a Doom-like game where monsters, demons, and zombies turn out and you need to kill them or be killed in the process to get to the end. It’s shot entirely in first-person view so it’s a strong game vibe. I’m not too familiar with that kind of game, apart from Doom though. But I guess some of you know more about that than me. You can always leave a comment about such games in the comment section. This is a special film for sure. It’s interesting but at the end of the day, it’s really not my cup of tea.
