Well, then maybe you’re not good enough for me either! I’m sick and tired of, primarily facebook groups, where “self-promotion” isn’t allowed. We can, of course, discuss what self-promotion actually means. Is it a post like “come and buy my book, if you buy now you get an additional copy for free”? Or is it posting stuff that’ s really on topic but the post includes a link to the source material? In this case, of course, the link is pointing to this site.
I get it, and I don’t. You want to keep people posting inside the group itself. Companies that make money do it all the time. They want to keep the traffic on their own site. Google has included AI in their answers so that they don’t need to let go of the customer, they don’t need to direct them to an external site. All results are fully displayed on the search engine itself. I also get it, when it comes to Facebook as a company. You want people to stay so that you can make more money.
But a facebook group, run by people pretending to have an interest in a certain subject. When they reject posts, that offer content that could spark meaningful discussion, as the discussion will happen in the group and hopefully also makes more people find the group. The more active a group the more attractive to people – right?
But no, what many of them do is to deny posting rights, or not approving posts leading away from the group. Some of them even delete already approved posts. Part of the problem is of course that there are too many admins and mods and that they all work in different ways. For some it’s not allowed at all, and for some it’s no problem at all. Others seem to look for a certain quality aspect in what’s being posted. The bottom line is that it’s seldom consistent. One day it’s this way, and the next it’s something else.
I have tried to keep track of what is allowed in different groups but it seems to change over time and I’m getting fed up with it. If you don’t want quality posts that are on topic and you instead prefer countless memes that get numerous likes and lols, I will not stand in your way. If I’m not good enough with my posts, well, then maybe the group isn’t ready to receive them?
What I feel is a win win, you get content and I get some exposure, will instead turn out to be a lose lose situation. You don’t get any content and I get no exposure. And in addition, this could lead to fewer active contributors in the group. But so be it! Feeling Stubborn!
