So Far So Good So What is the third studio album from Megadeth. To me this is a step back from the evolution that led to Peace Sells. Not productionwise or songwritingwise perhaps. Well, kind of songwritingwise since I don’t really find many memorable songs on it. It’s quite bad when a cover of Anarchy in the UK is the most memorable track on the album don’t you think?
For me, that is essentially the case. The only other song that really stands out to me is In my Darkest Hour inspired by the death of Cliff Burton. Although the lyrics don’t really connect to Burton. They’re held on a more distanced, yet personal level. Most people say that the lyrics really reflect the ending of a relationship with a girlfriend or the likes. But it was nevertheless inspired by the demise of Cliff.
There’s new personnel on So Far So Good So What too. It might explain the disappointment I feel towards this album, but on the other hand. Megadeth has had more members than I can remember since then so I don’t really know. I guess you just can’t win ‘em all and this wasn’t an album that did it for me.
