Infestissumam is the second studio album from the Swedish rock band Ghost. The fact that I löabel it as rock might upset some, but I cannot seriously call this anything else. It’s definitely not Metal in any way shape or form and even though it has very “poppy” vocals, it’s certainly not as simple as calling it pop. Possibly it would work to stretch the concept of Hardrock to include Ghost but I don’t really think it fits there either.
Infestissumam seems better produced than the first album Opus Eponymous. And by better I mean that it’s even more streamlined. There are no rough edges, which, to me, would have given the music a bit more life. It wouldn’t have felt as constructed and “perfect” if there were actually some part sticking out from the mold.
With that said, I do feel like the songs are more thought through on Infestissumam. It’s obvious that the songs are written with the satanic image approach the band has maintained through the years. I mean, even if the imagery is taken from the catholic church, it’s certainly not angelic or all good. It never hit me before, but it just might be the cause for the imagery. To create a controversy by pointing out the catholic church as the evil that lives among us and hides in plain sight?
In any case, the contrast between the image and the music is clashing and that is kind of entertaining. The songs are more melodic on Infestissumam than on the previous album and might be somewhat easier to sing along with if you were to learn the lyrics at some point. Still, it’s a little too much “fake” music for my taste.
