Annihilator – Never Neverland – 1990

Never Neverland

I’ve always found Jeff Waters’ guitar riffs innovative and fresh on all of Annihilator’s albums. Never Neverland is a huge development from Alice in Hell. This is where you truly notice that he doesn’t choose conventional paths and is eager to incorporate odd tones and tempo changes for effect! It’s not as straightforward Speed Metal as the debut, and it feels overall more thought-out.

Coburn Pharr handles the vocals on Never Neverland, and he performs at least as well as the previous singer. His voice fits excellently with the music being played! The favorite songs on Never Neverland tend to change from time to time. But the ones that always are up for consideration are Sixes and Sevens, and Imperiled Eyes. The latter also contains techniques I’ve never heard used as riffs before (and neither later).

Well, there’s not much more to say, really. If you like Annihilator’s other albums or Heavy/Speed Metal with innovative riffs, you’re likely to enjoy Never Neverland too!
