Heavy Metal Legends or The Oz as I’ve seen it named on various internet sites is the first album by the Finnish Heavy Metal Band Oz. I got a couple of their album on vinyl but haven’t listened to them in ages. I believe that I have at least Fire in the Brain and III Warning. Obviously I’m also acquainted with the 1984 EP Turn the Cross Upside Down.
But Heavy Metal Legends was an album I wasn’t aware of at all – long live streaming! Well, not really – I much prefer physical media before streaming, but on the other hand I’m also quite lazy. And it IS easier to listen to streamed music via phone och computer these days.
Anyway. At first I wasn’t too impressed by it. Heavy Metal Legends sounded a bit too dated for me. But there was something there and I had to listen på it again – and again. It’s actually a quite nice album if you take it for what it is. It’s obvious that this is a beginners album. There are many aspects taht could have been made better. Production wise especially. I’m also not a superfan of the vocals. But they get the job done and the songs a raw and heavy!
Musicwise I guess Heavy Metal Legends will place itself somewhere between traditional Hardrock och the era and Heavy Metal. It’s surely an album that made me take interest in Oz again after all these years!
