Ace Frehley – 10.000 Volts – 2024
10.000 Volts is the 6th or 7th solo album by former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley. It all depends a little on how you count. Should the Kiss solo album be counted? Should Frehley’s Comet be part of the discography? But either way, I feel that 10.000 Volts is a strong album. It starts off with a really good opener and keeps the energy high all the way through. Of course, it’s impossible to say how many takes there’s been or how many overdubs there are. But it sounds like Ace still knows how to handle a guitar. He’s not a great singer but he never was and never claimed to be. He gets the job done, no more, no less.
But 10.000 Volts also does something that I haven’t heard in a long time. To be honest I thought it was a thing of the past altogether. It uses fade-outs on a few songs. I can’t help but be disappointed. I’ve always considered that to be a sign of how they weren’t able to write a finish of the song. I wish there was an end to all the songs. To me it becomes unfinished.
Music-wish you get about what you expect. Maybe a little bit more. I haven’t heard everything Ace Frehley has done in his solo career but I think that some of it wasn’t so good. And with all the bad-mouthing that has been going on lately, mainly between Paul Stanley and Ace Frehley, Ace promised that Paul would look like an imbecile when 10.000 Volts came out. Well, I don’t know what to say about that. I think it’s good, pure, true, hardrock. Something that doesn’t sound like Kiss in their heyday at all. Which surely is a good thing.
