Sherrie Austin – Love in the Real World – 1999
Love in the Real World was an album I knew nothing about. In fact, I knew nothing about Sherrie Austin when my friend introduced me to her. Or, should I say, her music. I must admit that I don’t have much knowledge about Sherrie Austin, neither before nor after this album, although there is indeed another album in my record collection. However, musically, it’s relatively easy to listen to country-pop without any sorrows hanging over it. In other words, I’m happy to have this as background music while doing something else, although I wouldn’t sit down and listen to it explicitly.
The country influences, including typical steel guitar and other country elements, are quite clear, but the music doesn’t take itself too seriously and doesn’t become as pretentious as I often perceive music of this kind to be. It’s nice to occasionally relax from underlying messages and text analyses, and I think I can do that with this Love in the Real World – at least today. When you listen to many different forms of music, you might just need to break the pattern from time to time to clear the system, so to speak.
