Kreator – Outcast – 1997
Outcast is the 8th studio album by Kreator. Up until this point, there’s already been quite a difference in both the style and the quality of the albums. In my opinion, of course. Some have been very good, and a few, not so good. Of course, as a listener and a fan, you want every single album to be top-notch, something that is very rarely the case. But on the other hand, I, for one, commend the will to experiment and the courage to not sound the same on every single album.
On Outcast, Kreator takes a more industrial metal approach, and I’m not sure I really like it. It’s certainly not bad, and there’s a lot of attitude. But to me it becomes a little too stiff and monotone. The songs are, as I said, not bad at all, and it’s quite a listenable album, but it’s nothing more than that. For me, nothing really stands out, and I would consider Outcast as a parenthesis in the Kreator discography.
All lyrics are written by Mille Petrozza again, and all the musical composition is credited to Kreator as a band. He also handles vocals and guitar, of course. This time they’re joined by Tommy Vetterli, known from the Swiss Metal band Coroner, on an additional lead guitar. Bass is handled by Christian Giesler, and Jürgen Reil is back behind the drums. Most of them are also credited with programming, hinting that Outcast is not just a straight up Thrash Metal album.
