Trailerpark Idlers – Fifty Gallons of Lightning – 2014
Like Trailerpark Idler’s previous album Meanwhile in Dogpatch, this one was going to pass me by unnoticed. A note to those of you who send downloadable albums for review, be clear! Also be patient because I will give an opinion, sometimes it just takes a little extra time. This album is a bit more homogeneous than the last one was. Then they would have taken the turns among the genres and mixed them fresh. Here, most of it is perhaps pure country. There are also much more accessible songs. They are songs that sit and are easy to sing along to almost. Most of them
have a female vocalist in Miss LisaLee. That sounds really good about her. For that matter, I don’t want to sound down on Morgan Hellman taking her tone. It actually sounds really good too!
As I said, it’s about country. I won’t make it any harder this time because I think most of it is so close to this umbrella genre that it would just be silly to try to flesh it out further. There are a couple of songs that are a bit more rock-ish and I think I can sense some bluegrass influences here and there. Maybe it’s the banjo that does it. I like the banjo and think it’s a cool instrument. It adds a completely different dimension to the soundscape. Furthermore, as I mentioned earlier, it’s very easy to listen to and after just a few times you start to get carried away by the songs. And you think they should have the routine down, this is their twelfth album! That’s not bad for a Swedish band that plays alternative country! I like this more than the last album, which was a bit too spread out for my taste. Here they’ve managed to hold it together in a good way and the results are not long in coming!
